Life Science Summer Institute (LSSI) San Diego Miramar College

Here are some pictures of a teacher I work with Tina Tom (Chula Vista Middle School). She and her co-worker Gina Sacaluso-Caro attended the Life Science Summer Institute at Miramar College 2013. Teacher attendees can borrow equipment and a lab assistant for use with students in their classrooms.
I attended this program in January 2012. It was one of the best programs I have been involved with as a teacher in San Diego, Sharon, Erika, Sarah and Sandy were the best instructors. The deadline for 2014 summer applications is March 29, 2014. www.sdbioteched.org

It is a 12 day Summer Program for teachers using the Amgen Biotech Experience curriculum.
Teachers also tour many of the Biotech companies here in San Diego.

Concept task = an activity that reviews and front loads the material for the assessment (performance task)

A Performance task is one of the 6 types of assessment questions which will be on the future CA state assessment created by SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENT (SBAC).

It is a good idea to start using performance tasks as assessments in your classroom.
